Spanish Grand Prix Preview

There’s no denying that this has been a particularly interesting F1 season so far. First and foremost, because the Italian Kimi Antonelli is having a phenomenal season and currently holds a commanding lead. On the other hand, drivers like Oscar Piastri and Max Verstappen have been underperforming so far, partly due to the new rules regarding the much-discussed batteries in the cars.

The Battle at Mercedes

What’s especially exciting is that the Spanish Grand Prix comes with a lot of unknowns heading into the race. Mainly because no one has ever raced at the MADRING before. Last week, we saw that Kimi Antonelli is currently in a league of his own. He started from seventeenth place at Monza and managed to win the race—all under the watchful eyes of countless fellow Italians. Partly because of this, he solidified his lead over teammate George Russell. What was especially exciting was the battle between the two teammates. Will we see more of that during the current F1 season?

The Podium for Max Verstappen

Max Verstappen had a difficult run-up to the Italian Grand Prix. Shortly after his retirement at Zandvoort, practice sessions in Italy were challenging. And yet, on Sunday, race day, he put in an outstanding performance. He finished on the podium, finishing ahead of drivers like Lewis Hamilton, Charles Leclerc, Oscar Piastri, and Lando Norris. With all his experience, can he perform well in Madrid too? Or will car problems once again quickly shatter his aspirations?

MADRING: The Madrid Circuit

The MADRING is a brand-new Formula 1 circuit in Madrid. The track is approximately 5.4 kilometers long, has 22 turns, and runs largely on public roads. The Grand Prix ultimately consists of 57 laps, resulting in a total distance of about 308 kilometers.

What stands out most is that the MADRING is a fast yet technical track with long straights. It also features both slow and fast turns. La Monumental, in particular, stands out—a 550-meter-long banked turn that is sure to provide some spectacular action. At first glance, the MADRING seems particularly well-suited for cars with a good balance between top speed and cornering grip. And that’s exactly where the Mercedes and Ferrari cars seem to have a good chance.

Spanish Grand Prix Betting Tip

It’s difficult to predict in advance who will win a race on a track that has never been raced on before. And yet, we’re going to give it a try. Right now, we see Kimi Antonelli in top form. In the last four races, he finished first twice, second once, and third once. This shows that he is currently the clear favorite to become world champion—especially with his 66-point lead in the world championship standings.

Still, our prediction is slightly different, because we’re betting on Mercedes to win this race. George Russell has certainly been performing well lately, and that’s exactly why it would make perfect sense for either Russell or Antonelli to win. A Mercedes victory at the Spanish Grand Prix is priced at odds of 2.10.
