Austrian Grand Prix Preview

After Lewis Hamilton’s outstanding performance in Barcelona, the question is whether Formula 1’s most successful driver can also deliver in Austria. It will also be interesting to see if Max Verstappen can make it back onto the podium at “his” Red Bull Ring. We’ll give you a brief update on the latest developments surrounding Formula 1’s top drivers.

Latest F1 News

Max Verstappen

Call it nationalistic or not, we always pay extra attention to Max Verstappen’s performances. The Dutch driver, who races for Red Bull, got off to a very rough start to the Formula 1 season, but has been making his presence felt more lately. For example, he secured an impressive P2 in qualifying in Monaco and finished fourth in Barcelona. These aren’t the results we’re used to seeing from the four-time world champion, but they’re an improvement over the start of the season.

Kimi Antonelli

Of course, plenty of eyes are once again on Kimi Antonelli. The Mercedes teenager is still leading the World Championship standings, but suffered his first real setback of the season two weeks ago. He retired from the race at the Circuit de Catalunya and watched as Lewis Hamilton ultimately claimed the victory. The Italian still holds a comfortable lead, but the Briton closed the gap by 25 points, bringing Hamilton’s deficit to Antonelli to 41 points. With nearly 20 races remaining, however, anything can still happen.

History of the Austrian Grand Prix

Max Verstappen has been the winner at the Red Bull Ring four times before. Last year, however, it was Lando Norris who came out on top at the Austrian Grand Prix. Ultimately, it was also the Brit who became world champion. Still, he has been a major disappointment so far this F1 season.

Mercedes also has fond memories of Austria. They won four races in a row there in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, and were also the strongest team in 2020 and 2024. George Russell, in particular, will have excellent memories of the 2024 race. He was the best driver and will be hoping to make a strong showing again this weekend—especially since things haven’t been going his way so far this season.

Austrian Grand Prix Betting Tip

Betting Tip 1: Max Verstappen finishes in the top 3

It seems that Max Verstappen is approaching this race with a bit more composure than he did at the start of the season. He’s also using a new engine, which could allow him to compete at the front of the pack again. Add to that the fact that he’s racing at his home track for Red Bull, and there’s a very good chance he’ll finish on the podium. Max Verstappen finishes in the top 3 gets you odds of 3.25 at Oranje Palace.

Austrian Grand Prix Prediction

Kimi Antonelli has been in a league of his own throughout the F1 season. The Italian has been the strongest driver in five of the seven races in 2026, so he will undoubtedly start the race at the Red Bull Ring with plenty of confidence. Especially since he seems to possess a great deal of mental resilience. We expect Kimi Antonelli to claim his sixth victory of the year—a bet that pays out at Oranje Palace odds of 2.75.
