Spain v Belgium preview

A place in the semi-finals of the 2026 World Cup is up for grabs for both Spain and Belgium. The Spanish are considered favourites going into the match, whilst Belgium go into the game brimming with confidence following what has so far been a very exciting knockout stage. All the ingredients are in place for a quarter-final in which the tension is set to run high and small moments could well make all the difference. Can Charles de Ketelaere rise to the occasion once again? And will Lamine Yamal finally rediscover his form?

Current Form & Team News

Spain

Any team that has still not conceded a goal after five World Cup matches must be doing something right. Spain convincingly defeated Austria (3–0) and Portugal (1–0) in the knockout stages and have therefore reached the quarter-finals unscathed. National manager Luis de la Fuente has a squad at his disposal in which goals can come from a number of players. Mikel Oyarzabal leads the Spanish scoring charts with four goals, whilst Alex Baena and Pedri are also key figures in attack. One minor drawback is Lamine Yamal’s underwhelming performance so far. The teenager has not yet made his mark on the tournament and hopes to do so against Belgium. Will he step up when it counts?

Belgium

Belgium have reached the quarter-finals thanks to their attacking football. The Red Devils first pulled off a miraculous victory over Senegal, winning 3–2 in the dying moments. Not long after, the much-talked-about match against the USA was won 4–1. Charles de Ketelaere, in particular, made his mark by scoring twice and providing an assist against Team USA. And, of course, Romelu Lukaku was there again too. The formidable striker from Italian side Napoli scored his third goal of the 2026 World Cup.

Whilst Belgium are making a big impression in front of goal, the biggest question marks lie at the back. The team have already conceded three goals in the knockout stages and now face a Spain side that needs very few chances to score. National coach Rudi Garcia will therefore be hoping for a much more solid defensive performance to secure a place in the semi-finals.

Head-to-Head

Spain and Belgium have faced each other 23 times over the years. The balance is in Spain’s favour, with thirteen wins to Belgium’s five. Five matches ended in a draw. The most recent encounter also went Spain’s way, with them winning 2–0 in 2016. Ten years on, this match at the 2026 World Cup is more important than ever.

Predicted line-ups

Spain (4–3–3):

Simón; Porro, Cubarsí, Laporte, Cucurella; Rodri, Pedri, Olmo; Yamal, Baena, Oyarzabal

Belgium (4-3-3):

Courtois, De Cuyper, Ngoy, Mechele, Castagne, Raskin, Van Aken, Trossard, De Ketelaere, Lukebakio

Spain v Belgium betting tips

Betting tip 1: Under 0.5 goals – Belgium

Spain have yet to concede a goal in this World Cup, having kept a clean sheet in all five of their matches. Belgium boast plenty of attacking quality with players such as Lukaku, Trossard and De Ketelaere, but now face the most solid defence in the tournament. Moreover, Spain themselves rarely give away clear-cut chances. We expect Unaí Simon to keep another clean sheet. If Belgium score fewer than 0.5 goals, you’ll get odds of 2.30.

Betting tip 2: Mikel Oyarzabal to score a goal

Mikel Oyarzabal is having an excellent World Cup and has now scored four goals. This makes him one of the most prolific scorers in the tournament. Facing a Belgian defence that has already conceded several goals in the knockout stages, the Spanish striker will once again have opportunities to add to his tally. We reckon the clever forward will find the net again. A goal from Mikel Oyarzabal will earn you odds of 2.15.

Spain v Belgium Prediction

Final score: Spain 2–0 Belgium
Spain have not once given the impression in this World Cup that they might lose control. The team concede virtually nothing at the back and have enough quality up front to break open a match at the right moment. Belgium will have to be at their very best to cause Spain any trouble. To be honest, we think Spain are a class above and therefore we predict a clinical 2-0 victory for La Furia Roja.
