Scotland vs. Brazil Preview

Brazil leads the group with four points and is guaranteed a spot in the Round of 32. The same goes for Morocco. The Brazilians are clear favorites against Scotland, but the Scots’ passion should not be underestimated. Here’s a brief look at both teams.

Current Form & Team News

Scotland

Scotland faces a daunting challenge against Brazil. After a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Haiti and a disappointing 1-0 loss to Morocco, confidence hasn’t exactly soared. Coach Steve Clarke’s team looks determined, but creates too few chances to really make a difference. With players like Scott McTominay and John McGinn, Scotland certainly has quality, though pulling off an upset against the much stronger Brazil seems like a particularly difficult task. Or will they be pushed forward relentlessly by the Tartan Army?

Brazil

After the draw against Morocco, Brazil immediately showed against Haiti why it is among the top favorites for the World Cup title. The Yellow Canaries won convincingly 3-0, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice to be the star of the show. And yet, there’s also more than enough criticism of the South Americans. They lack real flair, while their defensive positions in particular are occupied by weak players. Still, they’ll want to win against Scotland as well, if only to gain confidence from topping the group.

Head-to-Head

It might surprise you, but Scotland and Brazil have faced each other ten times before. Four of those matches took place at the World Cup. Scotland failed to win any of those matches, suffering three losses and one draw. Overall, Brazil has eight wins and two draws. The statistics clearly favor the Yellow Canaries.

Expected Lineups

Scotland (3-4-2-1):

Gunn, Tierney, Hendry, Hanlet, Robertson, Ferguson, McTominay, Patterson, Christie, McGinn, Adams

Brazil (4-4-2):

Alisson, Sandro, Gabriel, Marquinhos, Danilo, Casemiro, Bruno, Vinicius, Paquetá, Rayan, Cunha

Scotland vs. Brazil Betting Tips

Betting Tip 1: Scotland to score fewer than 0.5 goals

Of course, the Scots had a few chances against Haiti and Morocco. And yet they seem to be struggling to mount an attack and create any truly clear-cut scoring opportunities. Brazil boasts an excellent defense, including an incredible goalkeeper. That’s one of the reasons we think Scotland will fall short and fail to score in this match. Betting on “Less than 0.5 goals for Scotland” at Oranje Palace pays out at odds of 1.85.

Betting Tip 2: Matheus Cunha to have more than 1.5 shots on goal

We were pleased to see Matheus Cunha start against Haiti. The Manchester United forward made a big impression and scored the first two goals against Haiti. His second goal, in particular, showed just how clinical he is. We think he’ll be dangerous again against Morocco, this time with at least two shots on goal. Betting on Matheus Cunha to have more than 1.5 shots on goal at Oranje Palace will earn you odds of 2.85.

Scotland vs. Brazil Prediction

** Final Score: Scotland - Brazil 0-2 **
Scotland has to work hard, while Brazil can take it easy. We predict an attacking Scotland that will get caught out on the counterattack by the speedy Brazilians. A 0-2 victory for the Divine Canaries seems fitting to us and a logical outcome for Scotland vs. Brazil.
