Wimbledon preview

The world’s biggest tennis tournament kicks off on Monday 29 June. The first matches in the first round of Wimbledon 2026 will get underway at one of the most beautiful tennis venues on earth. Of course, we’ll see a number of the sport’s greats in action straight away, whilst we’re always hoping for success for the Dutch players. Can Jannik Sinner and Iga Swiatek defend their 2025 titles?

Men’s favourites

It’s a major blow, but following his absence from Roland Garros, we won’t be seeing Carlos Alcaraz in action at Wimbledon 2026 either. It will therefore come as no surprise to anyone that Jannik Sinner, the Italian world number one, is the favourite to win this Grand Slam. Yet we saw a month ago in France that even he can be beaten. If he wins in London, he will claim the title for the second year running.

Two other players worth mentioning are Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev. Djokovic, the most successful tennis player of all time, is always a contender for the title, although it is becoming increasingly clear that his age is starting to take its toll. Can he challenge Sinner on the hallowed grass of Wimbledon? Nor should we overlook Alexander Zverev. He saw his dream come true last month when he won his first Grand Slam title. He was the best player at the French Open. Will this give him the confidence he needs heading into the next tournament?

Women’s favourites

Previously, it was always Aryna Sabalenka who was tipped as the hot favourite for a Grand Slam. She is still number one with the bookmakers, but we are seeing a number of other players closing in on her. With the Belarusian, the main question is whether she has recovered from her painful exit at Roland Garros. After the match, she let her tears flow freely and admitted that she’d lost heart for a moment. She received worldwide praise for her candour.

The next three names on the list of favourites are Elena Rybakina, Mirra Andreeva and Iga Swiatek. The fact that Rybakina is ranked second is particularly striking, especially as she was knocked out quite early last week at the Berlin grass-court tournament. Iga Swiatek also had a difficult run-up to Wimbledon 2026. She lost to the American Navarro in the last sixteen and hopes to regain her form soon.

Wimbledon 2026: Dutch players in action

Whilst the Netherlands is currently very well represented at the World Cup, things have been going less well in tennis for years. This is particularly true when it comes to the Dutch women’s players. It is no surprise, then, that there are no women from the Netherlands competing at Wimbledon 2026.

In the men’s draw, we’ll see three Dutch players in action. Naturally, the well-known names Tallon Griekspoor and Botic van de Zandschulp will be in action. In addition, Jesper de Jong deserves a direct place at Wimbledon 2026, particularly following his impressive performance at Roland Garros. He reached the fourth round there and displayed some excellent tennis. Can he do the same at Wimbledon?

Wimbledon 2026 Betting tip 1: Men’s singles winner: Jannik Sinner

We get the impression that Jannik Sinner has recovered well from his defeat at Roland Garros. The Italian is the clear favourite to win Wimbledon 2026, particularly given that Carlos Alcaraz is not taking part. Add to that Sinner’s victory at Wimbledon 2025, and there is a very good chance he will successfully defend his title.

Wimbledon 2026 Betting Tip 2: Women’s singles winner: Aryna Sabalenka

There isn’t really a single female tennis player who has had a strong run-up to Wimbledon 2026. Nevertheless, we believe that Aryna Sabalenka will head to London with her head held high and brimming with confidence. She reached the semi-finals at the WTA tournament in Berlin and is still dreaming of winning her first Wimbledon title. We believe this will happen at this year’s tournament.
