After the Dutch national team’s dramatic 2026 World Cup campaign, there was finally something to smile about again for the Oranje last Thursday evening. Under the guidance of new head coach Xavi, the Netherlands played an excellent match against Germany, ending in a 1-1 draw. The highlight of the evening was Ruben van Bommel’s beautiful assist to Cody Gakpo. Can both wingers make the difference again in Belgrade? Oranje Palace tells you everything about the Serbia vs. Netherlands match and gives you a Nations League prediction.

Serbia vs. Netherlands Preview

Serbia lost 1-2 to Greece, while the Netherlands put in a strong performance against Germany and earned a point. In that regard, the Netherlands appears to be the favorite in the second round of the Nations League. Here’s a brief look at both teams.

Current Form & Team News

Serbia

When you think of Serbia, names like Dusan Tadic, Dusan Vlahovic, or Dejan Stankovic immediately come to mind. In recent years, however, things haven’t been going so well for the Serbs. They were notably absent from the 2026 World Cup, and they also put in a very lackluster performance in their first Nations League match. They took the lead as early as the fourth minute thanks to Andrija Zivkovic. Still, the Greeks managed to score twice more, with familiar face Anastasios Douvikas netting the game-winner in stoppage time. Will Serbia manage to get revenge against the Netherlands?

Netherlands

Interestingly, the Dutch national team started with ten players who were also in the starting lineup for the World Cup match against Morocco. Quinten Timber was the only newcomer. Things seemed a bit disorganized in the first half, but in the second half, the Dutch national team played an excellent game.

We saw that the Netherlands applied very high pressure, which effectively shut out the Germans in the second half. Add to that two goals that were wrongly disallowed, and it’s clear that the Netherlands can look back on the match against Die Mannschaft with a sense of satisfaction. Will they pick up the three points on the road against Serbia, just like the Greeks did?

Head-to-Head

You might say that the Netherlands has a rich history of matches against Serbia. However, a Serbia–Netherlands international has never been on the schedule. The Oranje did, however, play against Yugoslavia and Serbia & Montenegro on several occasions in the past. The Oranje won those matches during the 2000 European Championship and the 2006 World Cup.

Expected Lineups

Serbia (4-4-2):

Milinkovic-Savic, Kostic, Pavlovic, Erakovic, Simic, Cvetkovic, Milinkovic-Savic, Maksimovic, Zivkovic, Tadic, Jovic

Netherlands (4-3-3):

Verbruggen, van de Ven, van Dijk, van Hecke, Dumfries, Veerman, Reijnders, Gravenberch, Gakpo, Meerdink, Summerville

Serbia vs. Netherlands Betting Tips

Betting Tip 1: Netherlands to Win & Both Teams to Score

The Netherlands is the clear favorite going into this match. We therefore believe the Netherlands will come away with the win. However, we do think the Oranje will concede at least one goal, something they’ve almost always done lately. The Bet Builder “Netherlands to win & both teams to score” offers odds of 2.50.

Betting Tip 2: Denzel Dumfries will score or provide an assist

Against Germany, Denzel Dumfries was once again a key player for the Dutch national team. He delivered a string of dangerous crosses and even came close to scoring a goal. We think the Real Madrid right back will play a key role against Serbia as well—this time by scoring a goal or providing an assist. This will earn you odds of 2.40 at Oranje Palace.

Serbia vs. Netherlands Prediction

Final Score: Serbia 1–3 Netherlands
We’re predicting a Dutch victory in Belgrade. Since we think the Netherlands’ defense will falter at least once, we expect a 3–1 win for the Dutch national team.
