New Zealand v Egypt: 2026 World Cup Prediction
Will New Zealand win their first match at the 2026 World Cup? Or will Mohammed Salah spell their doom? Oranje Palace tells you more about New Zealand v Egypt and offers some interesting predictions.
Group G, comprising Belgium, Egypt, Iran and New Zealand, is completely evenly balanced. The first two matches ended in draws, leaving all nations on one point. This also means that the winner of the New Zealand v Egypt match is guaranteed a place in the knockout stages. For the Kiwis in particular, this would be a world-class achievement. After their result against Iran, can they also secure a good result against the land of the pharaohs? Here is our New Zealand v Egypt prediction.

New Zealand v Egypt preview
Admittedly, Belgium’s group isn’t exactly the most exciting one at the 2026 World Cup. Nevertheless, we’ve thoroughly enjoyed the matches we’ve seen so far. New Zealand surprised everyone by scoring two goals, whilst Egypt have been a delight to watch thanks to players such as Mohammed Salah and Omar Marmoush. Read on to find out more about the latest developments in both countries.
Current Form & Team News
New Zealand
Before the tournament, the talk in New Zealand centred on just one name. Chris Wood is the country’s best player and has been making waves in the English Premier League for years. He didn’t score, but he did provide two assists during the 2–2 draw against Iran. It was Elijah Henry Just who managed to attract the most attention, as he was responsible for both goals. The striker, who plays for Motherwell in Scotland, has scored just seven goals in 35 matches in the Scottish Premier League this season. Not a particularly impressive tally, but with two goals at the 2026 World Cup, he is certainly putting himself in the spotlight.
Egypt
Egypt surprised friend and foe alike in their match against Belgium. And yet, not entirely, as the North Africans are the nation that has enjoyed the most success in the Africa Cup of Nations in the past. They have been slightly less successful recently, but they still boast an attacking line-up that many nations can only dream of. We’re talking about Liverpool’s all-time top scorer and the striker who enjoyed an excellent debut season for Manchester City. Will they make the difference against New Zealand?
Head-to-Head
New Zealand and Iran have faced each other once before. This was a friendly international in March 2024. It was Egypt who came out on top, winning 1–0.
Predicted Line-ups
New Zealand (4-3-3)
Paulsen, Cacace, Boxall, Surman, Payne, Stamenic, Singh, Bell, Just, Wood, Randall
Egypt (4-3-3)
Shobeir, Fatouh, Fathy, Ibrahim, Hany, Attia, Ashour, Lasheen, Trezeguet, Marmoush, Salah
New Zealand v Egypt Betting Tips
Betting tip 1: Over 2.5 goals
Although we’re not talking about outsiders, let alone title contenders, we’re really looking forward to this match. We expect an open game, in which at least three goals will be scored. Something we’ve seen before in the match involving the team from Oceania.
Betting tip 2: Over 0.5 shots on target – Elijah Just
Of course, Elijah Just deserves some attention. After all, how often does a Motherwell striker score twice at a World Cup? We reckon he’s keen to prove himself against Egypt too and believe he’ll have at least one shot on target. If Elijah Just has more than 0.5 shots on target, Oranje Palace offers odds of 2.10.
New Zealand v Egypt Prediction
** Final score: New Zealand – Egypt 1–2 **
We get the impression that Egypt have a better team than Iran and will make life just that bit more difficult for New Zealand. With an excellent attacking line-up, we think Egypt will win this match, even though New Zealand will also get on the scoreboard.
