Mexico v South Korea preview

Mexico and South Korea have both got off to a good start after the first matchday. This promises to be an exciting and open match in Group A.

Current Form & Team News

Mexico

Last Thursday evening saw a huge celebration at the Estadio Azteca in Mexico City. In front of tens of thousands of their compatriots, Mexico beat South Africa 2–0, getting their 2026 World Cup campaign off to a flying start. The goal by veteran Raul Jimenez in particular sparked a storm of noise. A minor setback was the late red card shown to Cesar Montes of Lokomotiv Moscow. He brought down a player who had broken through and will have to sit out the match against South Korea. As a result, he will miss the fixture against the Asian side.

South Korea

For South Korea, we saw a surprise standout in their 2-1 victory over the Czech Republic. Whilst most eyes were, as always, on Heung Min Son, it was Feyenoord’s Hwang In-Beom who stole the show with a goal and an assist. This will undoubtedly put him in the spotlight for the bigger clubs in Europe. Can he play a key role again in the match against Mexico? As big fans of the Dutch Eredivisie, we certainly hope so!

Head-to-Head

Mexico and South Korea have faced each other on several occasions in the past. The matches are often close, but Mexico usually has the upper hand.

Predicted Line-ups

Mexico (4-3-3):

Rangel, Gallardo, Vasquez, Alvarez, Reyes, Fidalgo, Alvarez, Mora, Vega, Raul, Quinones

South Korea (4-3-3):

Seung-Gyu, Tae-Sok, Tae-Hyeon, Min-Jae, Young-Woo, In-Beom, Han-Beom, Jin-Gyu, Jae-Sung, Son, Kang-In

Mexico v South Korea Betting Tips

Betting Tip 1: Quinones to score or provide an assist

One of the standout performers for Mexico was Julian Quinones. The left winger scored against South Africa and is certainly enjoying a fine run of form. For his club, Al Qadsiah, he has netted seven goals in his last four league matches. We believe he will once again play a key role against South Korea – this time with either a goal or an assist. This gives you enhanced odds of 3.00 at Oranje Palace.

Betting tip 2: Both teams to score – YES

We expect an entertaining match in which both sides will find the net. Both teams have already managed to do so twice at the 2026 World Cup, whilst also failing to capitalise on a large number of chances. Furthermore, the last three meetings between the two nations ended 2–2, 3–2 and 2–1. We’re confident in this bet and are going for ‘Both teams to score’ – YES. This gives you odds of 1.94.

Prediction: Mexico v South Korea

Final score: Mexico 2–1 South Korea
Mexico have home advantage and more experience at this level. We expect an exciting match, with a slight edge in favour of Mexico.
