All the ingredients for a tactical chess match are in place, so there’s sure to be no shortage of excitement. Here’s our Croatia v Ghana prediction.

Croatia v Ghana preview
Whilst Croatia bounced back from their 4-2 defeat to England with a clinical 1-0 victory over Panama, Ghana have gone from strength to strength in the tournament. Following their narrow victory over Panama, Carlos Queiroz’s side held favourites England to a creditable 0-0 draw. That result will have given the Black Stars a huge confidence boost. Croatia, however, will need to play all-out attack, whilst Ghana can capitalise on the space that this creates. That makes this clash all the more intriguing.
Current Form & Team News
Croatia
Following the setback against England, Croatia showed a completely different side against Panama. The team kept a clean sheet for the first time and picked up three crucial points. Nevertheless, the situation remains precarious, as only a win will give Zlatko Dalić’s side full control over their qualification. With Luka Modrić, Ivan Perišić and Joško Gvardiol, Croatia have plenty of experience to cope with the pressure. But will it be enough to secure a place among the top two teams in the group?
Ghana
Ghana remain unbeaten after two matches and are perhaps the biggest surprise of the 2026 World Cup. Their victory over Panama and impressive draw against England were the result of rock-solid organisation. Partly thanks to this, the Africans have yet to concede a single goal. Carlos Queiroz has organised his team excellently in defence and knows that a point will probably be enough to reach the next round. That is precisely why Ghana need not panic when Croatia go on the attack. And who knows, with Jordan Ayew and Antoine Semenyo, they might well strike back on the counter-attack.
Head-to-Head
Croatia and Ghana have only faced each other twice before. Both encounters were friendlies and were won by the Croatians. On 23 May 2010, Croatia won 2-0. Three years later, on 4 June 2013, Croatia came out on top again with a 1-0 victory. This will be the first time the two nations have met at a World Cup.
Predicted line-ups
Croatia (4-3-3):
Livakovic, Gvardiol, Caleta-Car, Sutalo, Stanisic, Kovacic, Modric, Pasalic, Perisic, Budimir, Kramaric
Ghana (4-3-2-1):
Asare, Senaya, Adjetey, Opoku, Mensah, Yirenkyi, Partey, Sibo, Iñaki Williams, Ayew, Semenyo
Croatia v Ghana betting tips
Betting tip 1: Under 1.5 goals
The stakes are huge, and this is often reflected in the style of play. Ghana do not necessarily need to win and will once again play from a compact formation, whilst Croatia must be careful not to fall victim to counter-attacks. Furthermore, Ghana kept a clean sheet in their first two group matches, and Croatia won their last match by just 1-0. A high-scoring spectacle is therefore unlikely. At Oranje Palace, the odds for under 1.5 goals are 2.85.
Betting tip 2: Over 0.5 shots on target – Marco Pasalic
One of Croatia’s players who regularly makes his mark in attack is Marco Pasalic. The midfielder, who plays for Orlando City in the US, had a shot on target against both England and Panama. As Croatia need to get past Ghana in the group stage – and therefore need to attack – we expect him to do the same against the West African side. If Marco Pasalic has more than 0.5 shots on target, this will earn you odds of 2.55 at Oranje Palace.
Prediction: Croatia v Ghana
** Final score: Croatia 1–0 Ghana **
Croatia will take the initiative, but Ghana make life difficult for every opponent. Ultimately, we expect the Croatians’ experience and individual quality to make just the difference in a thrilling finale to Group L.
