Ghana v Panama: 2026 World Cup Prediction
Will Ghana take all three points against Panama? Oranje Palace tells you more about this Group L match
On paper, Ghana certainly looks the favourite in their match against Panama. And yet the latter is no fewer than 39 (!) places higher in the FIFA World Rankings. That is striking to say the least, especially given that Ghana reached the quarter-finals at the 2010 World Cup. We’ll tell you more about this match at the 2026 World Cup and give you our Ghana v Panama prediction.

Ghana v Panama Preview
Ghana and Panama are set to face each other in an intriguing match between two nations hoping to cause an upset at the 2026 World Cup. Ghana boast greater individual quality, whilst Panama are known as a physical and resilient side.
Current Form & Team News
Ghana
There was a time when Ghana was known as Africa’s best footballing nation. This was back in the days of players such as Chelsea’s Michael Essien. Those days are long gone, as the West African country now plays hardly any significant role in world football. Nevertheless, in Antoine Semenyo of Manchester City, they have a truly outstanding player. The right winger moved from AFC Bournemouth to Manchester City last winter and made an immediate impact. The question is: can he lead the Africans to great heights?
Croatia
After qualifying for the 2018 World Cup, Panama also managed to secure qualification for the current tournament. They did so by beating El Salvador and Guatemala, amongst others. Meanwhile, they struggled greatly against Suriname, failing to beat them on two occasions. In that respect, the Latin American side appear to be one of the underdogs at the 2026 World Cup. Their pre-tournament form has been good, however, as they held Bosnia to a 1–1 draw and beat the Dominican Republic 2–1. Can they pick up a point for the first time in their history?
Head-to-Head
Ghana and Panama have not faced each other very often. This will be an important first official meeting at a World Cup.
Expected Line-ups
Ghana (4-5-1):
Asare, Mensah, Opoku, Adjetey, Senaya, Semenyo, Owusu, Ayew, Yirenkyi, Williams, Thomas-Assante
Panama (5-4-1):
Mosquera, Davis, Andrade, Escobar, Harvey, Blackman, Carrasquilla, Godoy, Diaz, Rodriguez, Waterman
Ghana v Panama Betting Tips
Betting Tip 1: Both Teams to Score
We reckon we’re in for an interesting match, even though the standard will be a fair bit lower than in a fixture like Brazil v Morocco. This is particularly true given that Panama’s recent matches have all been well worth watching. For instance, the ‘both teams to score – yes’ bet has come in six of Panama’s last seven matches. For Ghana, this has been the case in three of their last four matches. In short, we’re backing both teams to score. This gives you odds of 1.93.
Betting tip 2: Ayew to score or provide an assist
It feels as though Jordan Ayew has been playing for the Ghana national team since the turn of the century. He is now 34 years old, but remains one of the Black Stars’ key players. It’s no surprise that he scored seven times in ten World Cup qualifiers. We believe he will once again be a key player against Ghana and are backing the Leicester City striker to score a goal or provide an assist. This will earn you odds of 2.60.
Ghana v Panama prediction
Final score: Ghana 2–1 Panama
Ghana have more individual quality, particularly thanks to Semenyo. We expect them to win this match by the narrowest of margins.
