Feyenoord v Go Ahead Eagles: Eredivisie Prediction
Will Feyenoord win their second match of the season in the Dutch Eredivisie as well? Oranje Palace looks ahead to Feyenoord v Go Ahead Eagles and gives you football betting tips.
Of the three traditional top clubs in the Netherlands, Feyenoord perhaps performed the best. The Rotterdam side were away to city rivals Sparta Rotterdam and played an excellent first hour. They had a lucky escape in the closing stages, but ultimately secured a solid 1-0 victory. Go Ahead Eagles also got off to a flying start, beating Willem II by a whopping 4-1, which puts them in second place at the moment. We’ll tell you everything about this match and treat you to our Feyenoord v Go Ahead Eagles prediction.

Feyenoord v Go Ahead Eagles preview
Matches between Feyenoord and Go Ahead Eagles are usually great to watch. Last season, for instance, the Eagles managed to beat Feyenoord at the Adelaarshorst, whilst Feyenoord have performed exceptionally well in recent years when the Deventenaren have visited De Kuip. Here’s a brief look at both teams.
Current Form & Team News
Feyenoord
Remarkably, it’s still been a quiet summer transfer window for the Rotterdam side. Leo Sauer was sold to German side VfB Stuttgart in a decent deal, whilst players such as Givairo Read, Ayase Ueda and Anis Hadj-Moussa are still playing in the port city. This week, incidentally, the Stadionclub bolstered their squad with the signing of left-back Javi López. The 24-year-old Spaniard joins from Real Sociedad and will be playing in the Champions League this season. Will we see him start straight away in the first home match of the season?
Go Ahead Eagles
Whilst Go Ahead Eagles’ preparations for the current season got off to a slow start, things have been going extremely well in recent weeks. They secured 4–0 and 1–0 victories over OFI Crete and Luton Town respectively, before also winning their opening Eredivisie match by a comfortable margin. The team from Overijssel found themselves 0-1 down after a goal from Devin Haen, but fought back to win the match with four goals of their own. Melle Meulensteen, in particular, played a key role in this, as he provided the assist for the equaliser, before going on to score the 2-1 himself. Could he also prove crucial against Feyenoord? It’s clear that every team gets chances against the side from Rotterdam.
Head-to-Head
On paper, Feyenoord are, of course, the clear favourites. This is further reinforced by the recent history between the two sides. Of the last eleven Eredivisie matches, Feyenoord have won ten. This shows that the team from the east is finding it particularly difficult against the side that previously won the title under Giovanni van Bronckhorst.
Predicted line-ups
Feyenoord (4-2-3-1):
Ernst, Marmol, Kraaijeveld, St. Juste, Read, Vanhoutte, Zechiël, Diarra, Valente, Hadj Moussa, Ueda
Go Ahead Eagles (4-2-3-1):
Haug, James, Kramer, Dirksen, Sampsted, Meulensteen, Linthorst, Suray, Edvardsen, Tengstedt, Sigurdarson
Feyenoord v Go Ahead Eagles betting tips
Betting tip 1: Gjivai Zechiël to have more than 0.5 shots on target
One of the standout performers in Feyenoord’s pre-season has been Gjivai Zechiël. The Rotterdam club’s youth product had a strong season with FC Utrecht last term and now seems assured of a place in Feyenoord’s starting line-up. Against Sparta, for instance, he provided an assist and had a shot on target. We reckon he’ll be a threat against Go Ahead Eagles too and will have at least one shot on target. More than 0.5 shots on target from Gjivai Zechiël will earn you odds of 1.83.
Betting tip 2: Under 3.5 goals
We reckon Feyenoord will put in a solid performance, just as they did against Sparta. Just as they did last season when they won 1–0 at home against Go Ahead Eagles. In the away match, which Kowet won 2–1, there were no more than three goals scored either. We reckon that no more than three goals will be scored in this match. If there are fewer than 3.5 goals, you’ll get odds of 1.95.
Prediction: Feyenoord v Go Ahead Eagles
Final score: Feyenoord – Go Ahead Eagles 2–0
As mentioned, we’re predicting a somewhat narrow victory for the home side, who are looking solid at the back. In our view, this will result in a 2–0 win for captain Luciano Valente’s team.
