FC Sion v Ajax preview

Very little is known about FC Sion from Switzerland, which will no doubt raise some questions amongst the Ajax coaching staff. To help you get up to speed, we’ve provided more information about both clubs below.

Current Form & Team News

FC Sion

FC Sion is a Swiss football club and finished fifth in the Brack Super League last season. This saw them finish a respectable distance behind clubs such as FC Basel, FC Lugano, St. Gallen and champions FC Thun. It shows that the club can hold its own against the nation’s top sides. Furthermore, there’s no denying that Didier Tholot’s side have made an excellent start to the current season. In Europe, they comfortably saw off BATE Borisov and Armenian side FC Noah. In the league too, with six points from three games, they are certainly not doing badly. The question, however, is: can they also give Ajax a run for their money?

Ajax

It is still far too early to say that there is unrest in the capital. Nevertheless, many Ajax supporters fear that ‘their’ club is set to have a season much like those of recent years. The first half against SC Heerenveen, the second league match of the season, was excellent, were it not for the fact that they needlessly conceded a goal in the 45th minute. Nevertheless, the team ‘once again’ fell short in the second half, just as they did so often last season. Can they pull themselves together and fully recharge for the match at the Stade de Tourbillon?

Head-to-Head

FC Sion and Ajax have never played each other before. As a result, nothing can be said about their head-to-head record. That is set to change on Thursday evening.

Predicted line-ups

FC Sion (4-2-3-1):

Racioppi, Marquinhos, Kronig, Sow, Lavanchy, Baltazar, Kabacalman, Surdez, Boteli, Chouaref, Nivokazi

Ajax (4-3-3):

Ter Stegen, Wijndal, Baas, Bouwman, Gaaei, Mokio, Klaassen, Brandt, Gloukh, Leonardo, Berghuis

FC Sion v Ajax betting tips

Betting tip 1: Over 3.5 goals

We’re expecting an entertaining match in Sion, Switzerland. FC Sion’s results are quite something, with scores such as 6–1, 3–2 and 2–2, showing that they are strong in attack but certainly leave themselves exposed at the back. And so far, they’ve done so against opponents of lesser quality than Ajax. We’re therefore predicting at least four goals in this match, just as in their previous four European fixtures. Over 3.5 goals in the FC Sion v Ajax match will earn you odds of 2.38.

Betting tip 2: Ajax to win by a two-goal margin

We’ve seen during Ajax’s European campaign so far that they’ve had it relatively easy. The 2–2 draw against Shelbourne seemed like a one-off, perhaps exacerbated by the unusual setting in which that match was played. We believe that Ajax, with their heads held high and led by a number of experienced players, are in for an easy evening. Quite simply because the gap in quality is too great. We are therefore predicting a win for the Amsterdam side by a margin of at least two goals. A 3-way handicap of -1 for Ajax gives you odds of 2.70.

FC Sion v Ajax Prediction

Final score: FC Sion 1–3 Ajax
As mentioned, we’re expecting an entertaining match in Switzerland. Both teams like to play attacking football and their matches usually produce plenty of goals. As Ajax are seen as the clear favourites, we’re predicting a 3–1 win for Ajax.
