England v Ghana preview
England and Ghana will face each other in Group L at the BC Place Stadium in Vancouver. Both nations started the 2026 World Cup with a win and will be battling it out in this match for top spot in the group. The winner will also take a huge step towards the knockout stages. England are the favourites, but Ghana have already shown themselves to be a tough opponent who can undoubtedly cause problems for any team.
Current Form & Team News
England
England got off to a flying start in the 2026 World Cup with a spectacular victory over Croatia, in what was perhaps the best World Cup match so far. The goals were scored by Harry Kane (2), Jude Bellingham and Marcus Rashford. The Bayern Munich striker, in particular, is in top form and is currently the man to watch. Against Ghana, England have the chance to take a huge step towards the knockout stages and, with a win, firmly secure top spot in Group L.
Ghana
Ghana started the 2026 World Cup exactly as they had hoped: with three points in the bag following a 1-0 victory over Panama. Midfielder Caleb Yirenkyi’s goal in injury time was worth its weight in gold. A match of a completely different calibre now awaits against England, but confidence will be high among The Black Stars. They will be content with a draw, which means they are all but certain to progress to the next round of the 2026 World Cup.
Head-to-Head
England and Ghana have faced each other only twice before. Their first meeting was at the 2010 World Cup, where, after a 1-1 draw in normal time, Ghana eventually won 4-1 in extra time to reach the quarter-finals. A year later, a friendly international at Wembley ended in a 1-1 draw. Their head-to-head record is therefore limited, but it shows that Ghana managed to score on two occasions and gave England a tough time.
Predicted line-ups
England (4-3-3):
Pickford, O’Reilly, Stones, Konsa, James, Rice, Bellingham, Anderson, Gordon, Kane, Madueke
Ghana (4-3-3):
Asare, Mensah, Opoku, Adjetey, Senaya, Partey, Ayew, Yirenkyi, Semenyo, Thomas-Asante, Williams
England v Ghana betting tips
Betting tip 1: 2 or more goals – Harry Kane
Harry Kane is in excellent form and seems virtually unstoppable at the moment. The England striker creates several clear-cut chances in almost every match, and we expect England to be on the attack once again against Ghana. With the creative players behind him, Kane will undoubtedly find himself in scoring positions time and again. We therefore believe that the former Tottenham striker will score at least two goals. This will earn you odds of 3.50 at Oranje Palace.
Betting Tip 2: Over 2.5 goals – England
England were in excellent form against Croatia and demonstrated they possess a wealth of attacking quality. Ghana are not known for being the most solid side defensively and will find it difficult to stop the Three Lions. Moreover, there have been a striking number of goals scored at the 2026 World Cup so far. We therefore believe that England, just as against Croatia, will score at least three goals. This will earn you odds of 1.89 at Oranje Palace.
England v Ghana Prediction
** Final score: England 3–1 Ghana **
History shows that Ghana can cause England problems, so we certainly wouldn’t rule out a goal from the Ghanaians. Furthermore, England showed in their opening match against Croatia that there is still room for improvement defensively. Nevertheless, we expect the individual qualities of the Three Lions to ultimately make the difference. With so much attacking talent, we predict a convincing 3-1 victory for England.
