Germany v Paraguay preview
Will we witness a thrashing that sends the Paraguayans home with their tails between their legs? Or can they pull off a massive upset, like their 1–0 victory over Turkey? Below, we’ll give you a brief overview of both nations.
Current Form & Team News
Germany
Germany took a controversial 1-0 lead against Ecuador last week. It was the much-criticised Leroy Sané who scored the goal, which gave the Galatasaray player a huge boost. On the other hand, there will also be doubts, given that Ecuador created a huge number of chances. Is this a reason for Julian Nagelsmann to shake things up considerably? Or will he draw enough confidence from the victories over Curaçao and Ivory Coast?
Paraguay
Following Paraguay’s 1–4 defeat to the United States, nobody expected them to make it through to the next round after all. Not long after, they pulled off a surprise 1–0 win against Turkey, before drawing 0–0 with Australia. It’s clear that the defence has now been shored up, something for which head coach Gustavo Julio Alfaro certainly deserves credit. Can he also come up with a master plan for the crunch match against Germany?
Head-to-Head
Germany and Paraguay have faced each other twice in the past. Once at the 2022 World Cup, when Germany narrowly won 1-0. A few years later, a friendly match ended in a 3-3 draw. Will we see another such nail-biting encounter?
Predicted line-ups
Germany (4-3-3):
Neuer, Brown, Tah, Schlotterbeck, Kimmich, Pavlovic, Musiala, Nmecha, Wirtz, Havertz, Sane
Paraguay (4-3-3):
Fernández, Alonso, Alderete, Gomez, Caceres, Bobadilla, Kaku, Cubas, Almiron, Sanabria, Gomez
Germany v Paraguay betting tips
Betting tip 1: Germany to win and keep a clean sheet
It will come as no surprise to anyone that Germany are the favourites. Despite the fact that they do occasionally leave themselves exposed defensively, they are unlikely to be overly concerned about Paraguay’s attacking threat. Paraguay have scored just twice in three matches and do not exactly excel at creating clear-cut chances. Germany to win and keep a clean sheet gives you odds of 2.07 at Oranje Palace.
Betting tip 2: Felix Nmecha to have more than 0.5 shots on target
A name still unfamiliar to many in the German midfield is Felix Nmecha. The Borussia Dortmund player has become a fixture in the starting line-up, partly because he frequently gets involved in attack. We believe he will do the same against Paraguay, a match in which Germany are undoubtedly the stronger side. Felix Nmecha to have more than 0.5 shots on target will earn you odds of 2.00 at Oranje Palace.
Germany v Paraguay Prediction
** Final score: Germany 3–0 Paraguay **
We’re hoping for an exciting match, but we still think Germany are in for an easy game. That’s one of the reasons why we believe they’ll pull away before half-time and end up with a 3–0 victory.
