The Final Squad of the Dutch National Team

On Wednesday, May 27, head coach Ronald Koeman announced the World Cup squad for the Dutch national team. This means we now know which 26 players Oranje will take to try and win the world title. Are there any surprises? Absolutely — several big names are missing from the 26-man squad, while other familiar faces have made a comeback. We tell you more about the players of the Dutch national team and take a closer look at betting on the Netherlands.

The Goalkeepers of the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup

As always, the coaches have selected three goalkeepers for the 2026 World Cup. The choice fell on Bart Verbruggen, Robin Roefs, and Mark Flekken. All three play in top leagues, with Robin Roefs in particular making a big impression this season at AFC Sunderland. However, it remains to be seen whether the former NEC goalkeeper will get a chance between the posts, as Bart Verbruggen has been Oranje’s first-choice keeper for the past two years.

The Defenders of the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup

If there is one area where Oranje has physical concerns, it’s the defence. It is already known that Stefan de Vrij and Matthijs de Ligt will miss the 2026 World Cup due to injury. Additionally, it is uncertain whether Jurriën Timber will be fit in time for the tournament. This has created a small problem at right centre-back, where only Jan-Paul van Hecke is currently available.

On the full-back positions, we will rely on Denzel Dumfries, Mats Wieffer, Micky van de Ven, Nathan Aké, and Jorrel Hato. While the first two have had excellent seasons, the others have had more difficulty. Micky van de Ven has been fighting relegation all year, while Aké and Hato have not played many minutes. In central defence, captain Virgil van Dijk will once again play a leading role. The Liverpool defender is guaranteed a starting spot.

The Midfielders of the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup

In midfield, the head coach has opted for experienced players. Marten de Roon has been selected somewhat out of nowhere for the 2026 World Cup. Due to injuries to Jerdy Schouten and uncertainty surrounding Joey Veerman, a spot opened up in central midfield. Since players like Luciano Valente and Kees Smit are exhausted after a long season, they were left at home.

There was good news regarding Justin Kluivert. The AFC Bournemouth number 10 has had some excellent international performances for Oranje and hopes to be 100% fit in time. Fortunately, Frenkie de Jong and Ryan Gravenberch will be available for the 2026 World Cup.

The Forwards of the Netherlands at the 2026 World Cup

The attacking line usually receives the most attention — and it is precisely here where the Netherlands face some difficulties. There has been a question mark over Memphis Depay for months, while Cody Gakpo has not had the best season. The same cannot be said for Brian Brobbey and Donyell Malen. The latter scored no fewer than 14 goals in the second half of the Serie A season, while Brobbey scored seven times in his debut Premier League season.

The Full Dutch National Team Squad for the 2026 World Cup
