SC Telstar v Ajax preview
Whilst Ajax struggled greatly against SC Telstar last season, the Amsterdam side are hoping to win by a comfortable margin this year. On the other hand, SC Telstar have already shown, during their away match at NEC Nijmegen, that they are capable of reaching great heights. Here’s a brief look at both teams.
Current Form & Team News
SC Telstar
Following their impressive 2–1 victory at the Goffert, SC Telstar got off to a flying start to the new season. And yet, barely a week later, things went wrong again against Sparta. It highlights the inconsistency that teams like SC Telstar have to contend with. Nevertheless, Sparta only sealed the win two weeks ago in the 97th minute. At SC Telstar, they will no doubt be hoping for a moment of inspiration from someone like Rui Mendes or Abdelnour Soualhia. The latter plays in defence and has scored one goal and provided one assist in two matches.
Ajax
Ajax qualified for the group stage of the Conference League last Thursday, meaning they can now turn their attention to the Eredivisie for the time being. Especially as their European campaign does not resume until October. For Ajax, it is to be hoped that a number of new signings will finally start to show their best form. Tolu Arokodare, Julian Brandt and Marc ter Stegen have already shown that they provide an immediate boost in quality, whilst others are still struggling a little. Will Ajax pick up those all-important three points to get the season off to a good start?
Head-to-Head
Is there any point in looking too closely at matches played back in 1979? We don’t think so. And that’s why we’re taking a brief look back at the most recent encounters between the two sides. Since 2019, SC Telstar and Ajax have faced each other five times, with the record champions of the Netherlands coming out on top on all five occasions. Nevertheless, we all still have a vivid memory of Ajax’s 3–2 victory last season – a win that showed that the Velsen side certainly are not without a chance.
Expected line-ups
SC Telstar (4-2-3-1):
Koeman Jr, Hardeveld, Peersman, Soualhia, Caschili, Owusu, Rossen, Hetli, Brouwer, Mendes, Seedorf
Ajax (4-3-3):
Ter Stegen, Rosa, Bouwman, Baas, Henrique, Regeer, Klaassen, Brandt, Gloukh, Leonardo, Berghuis
SC Telstar v Ajax betting tips
Betting tip 1:
We reckon Ajax will ‘simply’ win this match. In fact, we believe Míchel Sanchez’s side will win by a margin of at least two goals. This has happened in four of the last five official matches between the two sides. And whichever way you look at it, Ajax were already 3-0 up early on last year too. A 3-way handicap of -1 for Ajax gives you odds of 2.30.
Betting tip 2: Julian Brandt will score or provide an assist
So far, Julian Brandt has made an excellent impression in his first few months as an Ajax player. Even though he isn’t yet 100 per cent fit, he has already found the net against Shelbourne, PEC Zwolle and FC Sion. We reckon he’ll once again lead his team by the hand at the BUKO Stadium and either score a goal or provide an assist. Julian Brandt to score or provide an assist will earn you odds of 1.95.
SC Telstar v Ajax Prediction
Final score: SC Telstar 1–3 Ajax
We reckon that Ajax might not play their best game, but they will still win comfortably. Sparta also had plenty of chances against the side from Velsen-Zuid last week and ended up scoring three times. Bearing in mind the history between the two clubs and Ajax’s attacking intent, we’re going for a 3-1 win for the visitors from the capital.
