Spain v Argentina preview

Spain, with their incredibly fluid style of play, take on the warriors of Argentina. It looks set to be a clash of playing styles, in which we’re sure to enjoy plenty of drama and passion. We’ll give you a brief overview of both countries.

Current Form & Team News

Spain

The thought of Spain reaching a World Cup final isn’t exactly a pleasant one for the Dutch. Sixteen years ago, Spain proved to be the strongest side at the world’s biggest football tournament – unfortunately at the Netherlands’ expense. In 2026, Spain are once again in fine form and, as far as we’re concerned, are the side that have made the biggest impression at the tournament. This was clearly evident against a France side considered to be all-powerful. Yet Les Bleus failed to create a single chance against Luis de la Fuente’s team. Will they be able to keep Lionel Messi and co from scoring as well?

Argentina

What a huge party it was in Atlanta last Wednesday evening. At first, it was the England fans who were in ecstasy, but not long after, a hurricane of noise erupted from the Argentine supporters’ section. And make some noise they certainly can. It was thanks to a superb strike from Enzo Fernández and a brilliant cross from Lionel Messi to Lautaro Martínez that saw La Albiceleste reach the World Cup final once again. How will manager Lionel Scaloni set his team up? Will they go all out on the attack? Or will he sit back and wait for a moment of inspiration from the top scorer of the 2026 World Cup?

Head-to-Head

Remarkably, two of the world’s greatest footballing nations have not played many matches against each other. In fact, this has only happened seven times in their rich footballing history. Spain came out on top on four occasions, whilst Argentina won three times.

Predicted line-ups

Spain (4-3-3): Simon, Cucurella, Laporte, Cubarsí, Porro, Rodri, Ruiz, Olmo, Baena, Oyarzabal, Lamal

Argentina (4-4-2): Martínez, Tagliafico, Martinez, Romero, Molina, Paredes, Fernández, De Paul, Mac Allister, Messi, Alvarez

Spain v Argentina betting tips

Betting tip 1: Both teams to score – YES

Although we haven’t seen many matches between Spain and Argentina, there are often plenty of goals when the two sides meet. The last two encounters ended 6–1 and 4–1. Out of the seven matches between them, both teams scored on six occasions. We believe this will also be the case in the 2026 World Cup final. Both teams to score – YES gives you odds of 1.85.

Betting tip 2: Pedro Porro to have more than 0.5 shots

One of the standout players for the Spanish side is Pedro Porro. The Tottenham Hotspur right-back has been in the starting line-up since the match against Austria, and has been performing with great vigour. He has had a shot on goal against Austria, Portugal, Belgium and France, with two of them even finding the net. We reckon he’ll also have a shot on target against Argentina. If Pedro Porro has more than 0.5 shots on target, you’ll get odds of 4.30.

Spain v Argentina Prediction

Final score: Spain 2–1 Argentina
We’re finding it particularly difficult to predict the outcome of this match, but we still believe Spain are in a league of their own. Ahead of the match against France, we saw Spain as the underdogs, but their performance was in a league of its own. We think they are one of the few teams capable of dealing with the Argentines’ tricks and winning this match. And just as they have done three times before in history, we reckon they’ll do so with a 2–1 victory.
