Feyenoord v FC Utrecht preview
Will Feyenoord head into the international break on a high? Or, following the draws against Go Ahead Eagles and ADO Den Haag, will they fail to beat FC Utrecht as well? Here’s a brief look at both teams.
Current Form & Team News
Feyenoord
The biggest storm in Rotterdam has now subsided. Following a somewhat lacklustre transfer window, criticism of Feyenoord’s management intensified, particularly regarding the replacement of the left winger and the striker. Since then, Feyenoord have beaten PEC Zwolle 7–0 and put in an acceptable performance against FC Barcelona. However, they are still struggling in home matches. They drew against both Go Ahead Eagles and ADO Den Haag. Will Luciano Valente and Gjivai Zechiel get their team back on track? And will Nacho Ferri find the back of the net again?
FC Utrecht
After five matches in the Eredivisie, the ever-ambitious FC Utrecht had just two points. The new manager, Anthony Correia, came under considerable pressure straight away. After miraculously coming back from a 0–3 deficit against Go Ahead Eagles and thanks to a late winner against Excelsior, the team seems to have got back on track. Artem Stepanov, in particular, is performing exceptionally well. The Ukrainian striker, on loan from Bayer Leverkusen, has scored in each of the five matches he has played, thereby equalling Rafael van der Vaart’s record. Can he do the same against Feyenoord?
Head-to-Head
Generally speaking, Feyenoord have found it relatively easy against FC Utrecht in recent years. Indeed, Feyenoord have won seven of the last eight meetings between the two sides. FC Utrecht’s last two matches in Rotterdam ended in a hard-fought 3-2 defeat. Will Feyenoord live up to their status as favourites? Or can the Utrecht side pull off another upset?
Expected line-ups
Feyenoord (4-3-3):
Ernst, Marmol, St. Juste, Watanabe, Read, Targhalline, Vanhoutte, Zechiel, Valente, Ferri, Hadj Moussa
FC Utrecht (5-4-1):
Barkas, Zagré, Panagiotou, Didden, Horemans, Vesterlund, Blake, van den Bergh, de Wit, Alarcon, Stepanov
Feyenoord v FC Utrecht betting tips
Betting tip 1: Over 1.5 goals for FC Utrecht
Despite the fact that Feyenoord are in significantly better form than FC Utrecht, the team from Utrecht still manage to score on a fairly regular basis. In fact, in their last three Eredivisie matches at De Kuip, FC Utrecht have scored two or more goals on each occasion. We reckon they’ll do the same in this lunchtime fixture. Betting on over 1.5 goals for FC Utrecht gives you odds of 3.35.
Betting tip 2: Gjivai Zechiel to score a goal
If there’s one player standing out at Feyenoord, it’s Gjivai Zechiel. The still-young midfielder had a strong season with FC Utrecht last year, but is currently thriving for ‘his’ Feyenoord. After six Eredivisie matches, he has five goals and three assists to his name. We reckon he’ll score against FC Utrecht too. This will earn you odds of 2.35.
Prediction: Feyenoord v FC Utrecht
Final score: Feyenoord 3–2 FC Utrecht
We reckon FC Utrecht will give Feyenoord a run for their money. Especially as the team from Utrecht have also seen that Feyenoord haven’t been performing all that well at home. However, we believe Feyenoord have gained enough confidence from their recent results, so they’ll come out on top. We’re going for 3-2. What do you think?
