SC Cambuur v Feyenoord preview
SC Cambuur’s return to the Eredivisie hasn’t gone entirely smoothly so far. Meanwhile, Feyenoord painfully let a seemingly certain victory slip away last week. Will this have an impact on Sunday afternoon’s match? Here’s a brief look at both teams.
Current Form & Team News
SC Cambuur
SC Cambuur had high hopes in the run-up to the new season. The northerners enjoyed an excellent season in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie and secured promotion to the top flight in convincing fashion. However, following a 0–4 defeat to Excelsior in their opening match, the team were brought back down to earth with a bump. The performance was mediocre, whilst the defence looked particularly poor. Things did go slightly better away at Fortuna Sittard, but there were still frequent lapses at the back. Will they be able to keep a clean sheet against Feyenoord?
Feyenoord
Following the narrow but solid 1–0 win away at Sparta and the 2–0 lead at half-time against Go Ahead Eagles, the atmosphere at De Kuip was actually quite relaxed. Barely three-quarters of an hour later, things went wrong and Kowet fought back to make it 2–2, meaning the Stadionclub faced their first loss of points this season. To make matters worse, they’ve lost Givairo Read, the right-back who was frequently linked with a move away this summer. He’ll miss the match in Friesland. Can Feyenoord turn this match, refereed by Danny Makkelie, into a win? Just as they’ve done in their last 16 matches against the team in yellow and blue?
Head-to-Head
We’ve already hinted at this, but Feyenoord generally have no trouble whatsoever against the Frisians. As mentioned, Feyenoord have won the last 16 (!) matches. The last time SC Cambuur picked up a point was on 24 February 1994. In that respect, everything seems to be going smoothly for the club from Rotterdam South.
Predicted line-ups
SC Cambuur (4-3-3):
Jansen, Jetten, Amofa, Baouf, Costarelli, Souren, Vink, El Arguioui, Hamache, Bouhoudane, Henstra
Feyenoord (4-3-3):
Ernst, Marmol, St. Juste, Watanabe, Lotomba, Valente, Vanhoutte, Zechiël, Diarra, Ueda, Hadj Moussa
SC Cambuur v Feyenoord betting tips
Betting tip 1: Goal or assist for Gjivai Zechiël
If anyone has made a convincing start to the new season, it is Gjivai Zechiël. The midfielder, who came through the club’s own youth academy, performed well in Feyenoord’s midfield, provided an assist against Sparta and even scored a goal against Go Ahead Eagles. We reckon he’ll play a key role again against SC Cambuur, either with a goal or an assist. This will earn you odds of 2.20.
Betting tip 2: Feyenoord to win by a two-goal margin
We’re fully confident that Feyenoord will win this match, just as they have done sixteen times in the last 22 years. In fact, we expect them to win by a margin of at least two goals. Particularly as the Frisians have already conceded seven goals in two matches. A 3-way handicap of -1 for Feyenoord gives you odds of 1.65.
Prediction: SC Cambuur v Feyenoord
Final score: SC Cambuur 0–2 Feyenoord
We’re expecting a somewhat low-scoring 2–0 win for Feyenoord, in which SC Cambuur will hardly be in the running. As Feyenoord aren’t exactly the sort of team that scores loads of goals, we think this result is the most likely. What do you think?
