Belgium v Senegal: 2026 World Cup Prediction
Will the Red Devils draw enough confidence from their resounding victory over New Zealand? Or is Senegal too strong for them? Read all about this match here, including our Belgium v Senegal prediction.
It certainly wasn’t plain sailing, but both Belgium and Senegal made it through the group stage of the 2026 World Cup. Both countries showed flashes of their class, but also had their off days. Senegal, for instance, suffered two defeats in the group stage – something they cannot afford in the knockout stages. It’s clear that two strong teams are set to face off in a match where the differences between them will be minimal. You can read more about this in our Belgium v Senegal prediction.

Belgium v Senegal preview
Belgium and Senegal will face each other in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup at Lumen Field in Seattle. Belgium qualified as Group G winners following a convincing 5–1 victory over New Zealand in their final group match. Senegal reached the knockout stages as one of the best third-placed teams thanks to a 5–0 win over Iraq in their final group match. Or as they say in America: ‘both teams are saved by the bell’.
Current Form & Team News
Belgium
Belgium got off to a slow start in the World Cup with a 1-1 draw against Egypt, followed by a disappointing 0-0 draw against Iran. National coach Rudi Garcia’s side faced heavy criticism for their lacklustre performance, but bounced back convincingly with a 5-1 victory over New Zealand. In that match, Kevin De Bruyne put in an outstanding performance, proving decisive with a goal and two assists. Romelu Lukaku also made a fantastic impact as a substitute, scoring a goal and providing an assist. Now that’s a cracking start. If our southern neighbours can keep this form up, a place in the round of 16 is certainly a possibility.
Senegal
Senegal got off to a disappointing start to the World Cup with two defeats against France (3–1) and Norway (3–2). As a result, virtually everyone had already come to terms with the fact that elimination was inevitable. In the all-deciding final group match, the Lions of Teranga staged a fine comeback with a convincing 5–0 victory over Iraq. Thanks to this comfortable victory, they still finished among the top eight third-placed teams. What is particularly striking is that Ismaïla Sarr is in top form, having scored four goals at the 2026 World Cup. Can he help Senegal to another victory?
Head-to-Head
Belgium and Senegal have only faced each other once before. At the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, the Red Devils came out on top 2-0, bringing the Africans’ World Cup campaign to a premature end.
Predicted line-ups
Belgium (4-3-3):
Courtois, Castagne, Mechele, Theate, De Cuyper, Tielemans, Vanaken, De Bruyne, Doku, Trossard, De Ketelaere
Senegal (4-3-3):
Diaw, Diatta, Seck, Niakhate, Jakobs, Diarra, Gueye, Camara, Mbaye, Sarr, Mané
Belgium v Senegal betting tips
Betting tip 1: Both teams to score – Yes
Both Belgium and Senegal have shown plenty of attacking quality in this World Cup. The Red Devils found the net in every group match, whilst Senegal did the same and still scored goals with ease. Defensively, however, neither side looked entirely convincing, making it a plausible scenario for both teams to score. Both teams to score – YES pays out odds of 1.83.
Betting tip 2: To score or provide an assist – Kevin de Bruyne
Kevin De Bruyne once again demonstrated his class in the final group match against New Zealand. The playmaker scored one goal and provided two assists, playing a key role in the convincing 5-1 victory. This is a real boost for the Napoli midfielder, as his creativity and goal-scoring ability ultimately make him one of the Red Devils’ greatest assets. We also expect him to play a major role in the match against Senegal. If Kevin de Bruyne scores or provides an assist, you’ll get odds of 2.50.
Belgium v Senegal Prediction
** Final score: Belgium 2–1 Senegal **
After a difficult start, Belgium have regained their confidence and possess greater individual quality. Senegal are a formidable opponent, but we expect the Red Devils to come out on top 2–1 in what promises to be a thrilling match.
