Netherlands vs. Germany: Nations League Prediction
How will the Dutch national team perform in its first match under Xavi Hernandez? Oranje Palace looks ahead to the Netherlands vs. Germany match.
We’re nearing the end of September, and that usually means it’s time for international matches. After seven games in the Eredivisie, the league will take a three-week break while we get ready for the Dutch national team. The team led by Xavi, the new head coach of the Oranje, will face Germany in the Nations League. Will “our” Orange Lions get off to a strong start right away? And will we get a glimpse of the new coach’s style? Here’s our Netherlands vs. Germany prediction.

Netherlands vs. Germany Preview
Who will come out on top in this highly anticipated showdown between the Netherlands and Germany? And might we see a few debutants? Here’s a brief look at both teams.
Current Form & Team News
Netherlands
Are you still feeling the hangover from the 2026 World Cup? After the early elimination against Morocco, all 18 million national team coaches were thoroughly fed up for a while. Following Xavi’s appointment as the new national team coach, positivity seems to be returning somewhat.
The Dutch national team’s first match will be against Germany, a country that also underperformed at the last World Cup. Will we see some debutants in the form of Mexx Meerdink and Gjivai Zechiel? And to what extent is Virgil van Dijk still the ideal leader for the Dutch national team? We’ll find out soon enough!
Germany
Just like the Netherlands, Germany also has a new head coach. None other than Jürgen Klopp—who enjoyed great success in the past with Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund—is now at the helm of Die Mannschaft. The German coach has decided to call up a total of 44 players, with the four Nations League matches split into two groups. This means, for example, that Marc ter Stegen, Ajax’s goalkeeper, will play in the first two matches. Will he keep a clean sheet against the country where he currently lives?
Head-to-Head
The Netherlands vs. Germany match is always one with a story. However, it’s clear that the Oranje have struggled against their neighbors in recent years. In fact, the Netherlands has won only one of their last seven matches. Of the last four head-to-head matches, Germany won two and two ended in draws. This suggests that Germany may still be the favorite for this match at the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Expected Lineups
Netherlands (4-3-3):
Verbruggen, van de Ven, van Dijk, van Hecke, Dumfries, Veerman, Gravenberch, Reijnders, Gakpo, Brobbey, Summerville
Germany (4-3-3):
Ter Stegen, Brown, Schlotterbeck, Tah, Vagnoman, Kimmich, Nmecha, Musiala, Adeyemi, Havertz, Karl
Netherlands vs. Germany Betting Tips
Betting Tip 1: Draw No Bet on Germany
Of course, we’re hoping for a good result for the Dutch national team. Still, we rate the Germans slightly higher, especially given their recent head-to-head matches, none of which Germany lost. We’re therefore going with a “draw no bet” on Germany, where you get your stake back if the match ends in a tie. This bet offers odds of 1.94.
Betting Tip 2: Brian Brobbey to Score
Do you remember the 2-2 draw against Germany in September 2024? In that match, Brian Brobbey showed that he definitely has the potential to become a top international striker. He also performed exceptionally well at the 2026 World Cup, and last weekend he scored a hat trick on the road against Manchester City. We think he’ll do it again against Germany. A goal by Brian Brobbey will earn you odds of 2.90.
Prediction: Netherlands vs. Germany
Final Score: Netherlands 1–2 Germany
We expect a narrow 2-1 victory for the visitors. The Netherlands hasn’t beaten a top-tier team in years and will have to work on a new structure under Xavi. Partly because of this, and due to Germany’s ever-present strength, we’re predicting a 2-1 win for Germany.
