Jordan v Algeria preview
At first glance, this might seem to be one of the least appealing matches at the 2026 World Cup. And yet we disagree. Not long ago, we saw Algeria secure an impressive 1-0 victory over the Netherlands, with Feyenoord’s Anis Hadj Moussa playing a key role. Can he replicate that performance against Jordan? Here’s a brief look at both nations.
Current Form & Team News
Jordan
Like Curaçao and Cape Verde, Jordan is also a country making its World Cup debut. We cannot ignore the fact that they’ve made a very good impression. Although they lost 1–3 to Austria, it was still an entertaining match. Ahead of the game, there were high expectations of Mousa Al-Tamari, who is jokingly referred to as the ‘Jordanian Messi’. The striker, who plays for French side Stade Rennes, was a constant thorn in the side of the Austrian defence and hopes to pose a similar threat against Algeria. We have every confidence that he will.
Algeria
Algeria played their opening match against Argentina, the reigning world champions. They were unlucky that Lionel Messi started the match fully fit and secured victory for his country with three goals. Nevertheless, the North Africans came close to a win, as a goal was unfortunately disallowed. It was also notable that star player Riyad Mahrez started on the bench, particularly as Anis Hadj Moussa had made an excellent impression up front. Will Feyenoord’s bag of tricks get another chance?
Head-to-Head
Despite the fact that the two countries are not very far apart, Jordan and Algeria have only played each other twice in the past. This was a friendly in 2004 that ended in a 1-1 draw.
Predicted Line-ups
Jordan (5-4-1):
Abdulaila, Taha, Obaid, Al-Arab, Nasib, Haddad, Al-Mardi, Rawabdeh, Rashdan, Tamari, Olwan
Algeria (4-3-2-1):
Zidane, Ait-Nouri, Bensebaini, Mandi, Belghali, Aouar, Maza, Bentaleb, Hadj-Moussa, Mahrez, Gouiri
Jordan v Algeria Betting Tips
Betting Tip 1: Goal or assist by Anis Hadj Moussa
Call it a bit of fan enthusiasm, but we’re very confident that Anis Hadj Moussa will put in a strong performance. He scored in the friendlies against both the Netherlands and Bolivia, thereby earning himself a place in the starting line-up. We believe he’ll be key against Jordan once again and are backing the winger to score a goal or provide an assist. This will earn you odds of 2.18 at Oranje Palace.
Betting tip 2: Over 2.5 goals
We expect a match in which both teams will go on the attack. After all, they need to win to stand a chance of progressing to the next round. In our view, this will result in at least three goals – a tally we also saw in the first two group matches of Group J. Add to that the fact that we’ve already been treated to some great matches throughout the 2026 World Cup. Over 2.5 goals in the Jordan v Algeria match will earn you odds of 1.87 at Oranje Palace.
Jordan v Algeria Prediction
** Final score: Jordan v Algeria 1–2 **
We believe Algeria are just that little bit stronger than the Jordanians. They are one of the best teams in Africa and demonstrated excellent quality during their pre-season preparations. Furthermore, they are in desperate need of a win and must win this match. We expect an exciting match, in which Algeria will come out on top.
