Brazil v Norway preview

On paper, Brazil are the favourites, but Norway certainly shouldn’t be underestimated. The Scandinavians have been one of the surprises of the 2026 World Cup and proved against Côte d’Ivoire that they can keep their cool even under pressure. Brazil saw off Japan in the previous round, although it was far from plain sailing. With strikers such as Vinícius Júnior and Erling Haaland, two of the most dangerous players in this tournament will be facing off against each other. In short: this promises to be an exciting round of 16 tie.

Current Form & Team News

Brazil

Brazil made it clear right from the group stage why they are once again among the favourites for the World Cup title. The Seleção started with a 1–1 draw against Morocco, before convincingly beating Haiti (3–0) and Scotland (3–0). Vinícius Júnior, in particular, is in excellent form. The forward has already found the net four times and has emerged as Brazil’s most dangerous player in the tournament. In the previous round, Brazil had a tougher time against Japan, but thanks to a 2-1 victory, Carlo Ancelotti’s side still managed to qualify for the round of 16. A minor setback was Lucas Paquetá’s injury, which means there is still a slight question mark over whether the creative midfielder will feature.

Norway

Norway is undoubtedly one of the revelations of the 2026 World Cup. The team kicked off with a 4-1 victory over Iraq, went on to beat Senegal 3-2, and only lost to France in their final group match. It should be noted, however, that Norway fielded a B team on that occasion. In the knockout stages, Norway beat Côte d’Ivoire 2-1 thanks to yet another decisive goal from Erling Haaland. The striker has now scored five goals, making him a serious contender for the Golden Boot. Add to that the talents of Martin Ødegaard, Nusa and Alexander Sørloth, and Brazil have been more than warned.

Head-to-Head

Remarkably, Brazil has historically struggled against Norway. In their five previous encounters, the Seleção have yet to secure a single victory. Norway have recorded two wins, whilst the remaining three matches ended in draws. That statistic will give the Norwegians confidence.

Expected line-ups

Brazil (4-3-3):

Alisson, Vanderson, Marquinhos, Magalhães, Danilo, Casemiro, Guimarães, Martinelli, Rayan, Vinícius Júnior, Cunha

Norway (4-3-3):

Nyland, Ryerson, Ajer, Østigård, Meling, Berge, Berg, Ødegaard, Nusa, Sørloth, Haaland

Brazil v Norway betting tips

Betting tip 1: Both teams to score – YES

Norway have scored at least twice in every World Cup match and, in Erling Haaland, have one of the most clinical strikers in the tournament. Brazil, for their part, create plenty of chances through Vinícius Júnior, Rayan and Matheus Cunha. Given the attacking quality on both sides, a bet on both teams to score looks like an interesting option. ‘Both teams to score – YES’ offers odds of 1.63.

Betting tip 2: Erling Haaland to score a goal

Haaland is in absolutely top form and has already scored five World Cup goals. The Norwegian has scored in three consecutive matches and, with the creative playmaking of Martin Ødegaard and Antonio Nusa, is creating multiple chances in virtually every match. We expect him to seize his moment against Brazil too. Another goal from Erling Haaland will earn you odds of 2.40.

Brazil v Norway Prediction

Final score: Brazil v Norway 2–2
Brazil have more individual quality, but Norway have proven in this World Cup that they can cause problems for any opponent. Moreover, the head-to-head record favours the Scandinavians. Our prediction: after 90 minutes of football, the scoreboard will show a spectacular 2-2 draw.
